is close to my heart. I’ve been a supporter of habitat for
humanity for many years and am one of the longest standing
board members of Habitat for Humanity - National Capital Region.
I believe in tithing 10% of my personal income in gratitude
for the life my daughter and I are blessed to enjoy. It is
my personal mission to help inspire people at heart with hope.
This is why I donate time, energy, expertise and money every
month to Habitat for Humanity-NCR. I encourage you to do the

Here’s why I believe in supporting this
cause.
The National Capital Region currently has over 15,000 families
on a waiting list for affordable housing. With a chronically
low vacancy rate and exorbitant rental prices, many families
are paying 75% or more of their incomes to rent inadequate
or substandard apartments and basements. They are caught in
a cycle of struggle trying to support their families and unable
to save enough or qualify for mortgages. This crisis needs
your help now!
Habitat for Humanity is an independent, non-denominational,
faith based charitable housing program dedicated to providing
decent affordable homes to low-income families world-wide.
Habitat does not give away homes; they operate with a “hand-up”
versus “hand-out” philosophy. Through sponsorship, donated
materials and volunteer effort they build homes and provide
interest-free mortgages to families who are caught in the
cycle of struggle and would not otherwise qualify for mortgages
through a bank. The mortgage payments made on habitat homes
are reinvested into building more homes. Habitat for Humanity
builds homes and hope for future generations.

Habitat for Humanity is self-supporting.
Unlike some charities who use a high percentage of donations
to cover administrative costs, Habitat is one of the only
self supporting charities which do not use donations for administrative
costs. Money to run the affiliate is raised from sales of
recycled materials at a Habitat Re-store location. This means
you can be assured that money you donate toHabitat for Humanity
actually goes to the building of homes.
Habitat for Humanity is self-propagating.
This means money invested in a home is repaid and reinvested
to build more homes. The more the build the more they can
build. Families who receive habitat homes also contribute
“sweat equity” to habitat and often continue to volunteer
and contribute to helping future habitat families.
Habitat for Humanity is self-evident.
Habitat proves its use of your donations with tangible results
you can see and touch. What a nice feeling it is to walk by
a habitat home, point to a house and say “I helped build that”.
Habitat for Humanity is building hope.
There’s nothing like the pride and stability of home ownership
to instill smiles and confidence for families to encourage
their children. Helping families to breaking the cycle of
struggle often has a ripple effect on the prosperity of their
children and generations to come.
Habitat for Humanity is love in action.
Volunteers often give up their family vacation time to help
build home for other families. They contribute time and energy
lovingly from their hearts to the grateful hearts of habitat
families.
